From a Heart of Joy: Sandy Crane Points to Jesus
By Paul | February 5, 2008
Sandy Crane is a director of Joy in the Evening, a small group ministry for the women (often working-outside-the-home women of Bethel). We tapped into Sandy’s wisdom with quick interview to inspire all of us small group leaders.
1. What makes you so passionate about directing Joy in the Evening?
I love to be used by the Lord and be a small part of helping the women grow in their walk with the Lord (getting to know Him better).
2. What evidence have you seen over the years about lives being transformed because of small groups?
I have seen women come who were not connected with other women. They have built friendships with women and then are able to share in the small groups on a deeper level and receive prayer and support. I have seen women grow in their Christian walk from never reading their Bible to enjoying a regular reading plan with Him. We have seen much answered prayer.
3. What do you think makes small group leaders effective? What habits have you seen be used of God in members’ lives?
Effective small group leaders have a calling from the Lord and a passion and desire to encourage the people in their group to identify and use the spiritual gifts the Lord has given them. They want to help their group members grow in their walk with the Lord and heal. Effective leaders are reading God’s Word on a regular basis, praying and listening to Him, taking time to prepare and trying to be at least one step ahead (continuing to learn) of the members in their group.
4. Any landmines to avoid, in order to spare Bethel leaders some misery?
Complacency, pride, not reading the Word, and trying to lead in your own strength (not leaning on the Lord)
5. How can we pray for you in your leadership (knowing that “speed of the leader is speed of the team”)?
I would appreciate prayer for vision for the Joy PM ministry and that I would be a good listener and obedient to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. I want to be faithful, available and teachable at all times.
