Glancing Around Care Groups
By Paul | February 8, 2007
Thought it’d be a fun activity to jot down some neat stuff going on through the ranks of GROWing Families care groups: to inspire you, to give you creative ideas, to produce material that helps us all glorify God together.
- In the Ellefson group, they did a fun icebreaker with chopsticks: relay-race style with 2 teams in a row behind a table, everyone had a plate in between them and a pair of chopsticks. You had to move the grapes and marshmallows from the plate of the person in front of you to your plate, down the row until it all ended up at the end. Object lesson: In China (where a couple members will be headed on a short-term missions trip), your silverware is gone and you get chopsticks. LIke life, you are dealt a new situation or storm instead of your comfort zone. You have to start using what is given to you by God because it’s what He’s filtered through to you to deal with, with His help. What is your chopstick situation?
- The Brad/Rebecca Johnson group sent care packages to the military before the Holidays, and got some soldier responses: “I provided the box to a soldier who has not gotten such a care package.” “I am amazed to receive your letter and the joy it brings me to know supportive families like that of your own can see through the outer shell and touch the heart and mind of a soldier.” “People such as yourselves make the difference.”
- Leader Eric Nilson was personally sensitive to the Spirit to ask forgiveness to a group member in front of all, which softened all the hearts of the group!
- Though it made it inconvenient for some, the Hodges/Kings shifted their whole childcare situation around to accommodate one family to make it possible for them to attend the group regularly.
- Eleven people in the Lochridge group were baptized last summer!
- The Gervais group partnered with the Second Wind Wagoner group for a potluck to get some intergenerational relationships going.
- Rich/Heidi Johnson and Wade/Judy Koglin set up everyone in their group with a 3-ring notebook (as some other groups do, too) so that they have a place to store their group roster, notes, prayer requests, etc.
